About this tool
A Unix timestamp counts the seconds (or milliseconds) since 1 January 1970 UTC. Paste one to see it as a date in UTC and any time zone, or paste a date to get its timestamp. The unit is guessed from the size of the number, and you can override it.
Questions
How does it tell seconds from milliseconds?
By magnitude. Values below 100 billion are read as seconds, then milliseconds, microseconds, and nanoseconds as they grow. Small millisecond values are ambiguous, so pick the unit yourself if the guess is wrong.
What date formats can I paste?
ISO 8601 works best, for example 2026-10-31T14:30:00Z. A date without a time or zone, such as 2026-10-31, is read as UTC midnight. A date-time without a zone is read in your browser’s local time.
What is the 2038 problem?
Systems storing seconds in a signed 32-bit integer overflow on 19 January 2038. This tool uses 64-bit-safe math, so dates beyond that convert correctly.
